hey guys, today while i was checking things on my tank i noticed that im getting pretty nice purple coralline all over my rocks. * even the base rock ive got from john a few months ago*
pretty much all my rock has it now, but i was wondering...

is there anything i can do to speed up the process of it taking over my rock?
pretty much i can see patches all over every rock but kinda wanted it to be all purple a bit faster..

You can seed it. I think I also read that if the magnesium is higher it grows faster. Not positive on that though.

Careful of what you wish for. In a few months I bet you're cursing it after your arm is sore from scraping it off the glass. ;D

What exactly do you mean by seeding it? Because I was wondering the same thing

regular water changes will keep your Ca stable but to get the excess Mg you could look into a supplement like PurpleUp. Everyone thinks its a big scam (I think its a waste too) but it does contain the Mg... not to say it wouldnt just grow on its own

Get a rock covered in coralline from your LFS, and put that in the tank. Or, the best way, is to take a rock covered in coralline and scrape some of the coralline off and sprinkle it around your tank on the rock.

if there is any purple coraline, it is already seeded. you only "seed" dead or dry rock that has no existing coraline growth on it because coraline cant just begin to exist it needs to be introduced via a little rock from the lfs or anything really as long as it has coraline on it

Ok, thats what I've done. Half live rock half base rock. just making sure you didn't mean physically putting it on the base rock lol

How long until you should start seeing it show up on other rocks?
