I have decided to move my sump to the basement. I am lucky due to the fact that I have a perfect spot to place it directly under where my tank is set up now. It is 75 gallons. I have quickly run out of space for equipment under the tank and this hobby has got a hold on me now. My only concern is that I would have to pump the water up to the tank about 8' with a couple of 90 deg elbows so maybe 10' of total water travel. What pumps are available to pump that distance?

quite a bit of head height plus 90's i would think danner 9.5 here is a link to there instruction sheets for that series

    http://www.dannermfg.com/instructionsheets/ZG100.PDF

im shure there are plenty of others but there not to badly priced good quality pumps and work well with high head heights

Hey thanks forthe advice...I was considering the danner pumps but thought I should maybe go a size or two bigger than the 9.5 I would rather buy too much pump :) or wait is it possible to get a pump that is too large?

You can't get a pump that's too large. Just put a ball valve on the return line and turn it down if it's too much.

is your pump submerged or is it external. I would go a few sizes too large, trust me you will not regret it.. For instance I ran a danner 9.5 on a 30 gallon tank at about 4 foot head and it rocked.. I would go big.. If its external dont run a danner type pump, rather use one that is more suited for external use. Look at these pumps, they are great, inexpensive, and quiet.. Decided to go with the danner mag drive 18. Should be plenty of pump. And at the rate I am going with this hobby my 75 gal will be upgraded quickly :)

that shoudl be plenty. I will caution you though as to the ammt of heat it will put into the water. if it were me, I would use an external like a Iwaki or Genx that is pressure rated.

fwiw, I have a Reeflo Barracuda that powers my tank. the tank is in the dining room (fishroom) and it si plumbed into my crawlspace and then out to my garage to the 150 sump. about 20 ft worth of distance and 10' worth of total rise.

Oh yeah, I never considered the heat generation of the larger pump :(

i was always unger the usumption that you should stick to 5 tomes an hour turnover rate to a sump . but i have never ran a sump i will soon though im in the prosess of planning out a 300 gal that i have to build in place in my basement and i was including 80-90 gallon sump with useing the huge magdrive

its nice to know that heat would be the only concern of going to large came here to help school and got schooled myself
