So for my 75g tank, I will be having a 30g sump. I was looking at the AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer with Drain Fitting & Maxi-Jet 1200 Pump.

The rating is for "Up to 75 gallons" Does this mean I have to get the next level up of the AquaC Remoras?

Can anyone make any good recommendations for me?

    Thanks for the help

Be sure to check out Bubble Magus. I purchased the NAC6 for my 75g. The thing is a beast, very quite, and not very expensive compared to other brands. I think I paid $160 shipped for mine.
I've also heard a lot of great things about Reef Octopus and SWC. Seems alot of members on here those brands.

I do like the BM NAC6A, but I have been reading that you need to have atleast 9-10 inches of water in the sump for it to be truly effective. That doesn't leave me much room for the water from the overflow if the power goes out.

I just started looking into this one. Do you know how deep it needs to be in the water for it to be effective?

really the pump only needs to be covered because the output pipe should set the water level in the skimmer

I'm liking the Vertex 100, lots of good reviews. How does it compare to an AquaC Remora as a HOB filter, if I wanted one that hangs on the side of my sump?

I'm pretty sure it's in sump only. but trust me HOB skimmers(that are designed to be HOB more then In sump, because some are both)are never as good as the In sump ones.
really having somewhere to put your skimmers is like 90% of the reason people have sumps.

Awesome, In-sump skimmer it is. And it looks like after reading some reviews between the BM NAC6A and the Vertex, that the vertex is the way I am going to go.

    Thanks all for the assistance

I had a Vertex IN-100 and absolutely hated it. I sold it and replaced it with the SWC-160 Cone Skimmer and couldn't be happier. Give it a glance if you didn't order it already... Jeff
