Ok I am on my way to the Home Depot. I have been surfing a few threads and noticed that hobbyists have been painting the inside of the stand with either paint or something to prevent saltwater damage. Can anyone give me some insight on what I need to purchase or what works for them? I posted this on my thread so please forgive me. I am still trying to learn the site.

I need to sand the inside of my canopy to get what looks like a little bit of black mold off (the inside is naked wood). After sanding I will just paint with a can of black Krylon spray paint.

I saw on another forum that they painted the insides with exterior paint and polyurethane. Good or bad combo?

I used straight polyurethane.... two to three coats on plain wood. I wouldn't paint the inside if I were you but it is your choice. Polyurethane will protect everything just make sure to cover EVERYTHING getting all the corners/seams/etc.

I used gloss white inside mine to maximized any light in the room and any I install in the stand making it easier to see what I was doing inside.

high quality, high gloss bathroom paint. its very resistant to humidity and is real thick. make sure to get it in all the cracks as well.

Hmmmmm, after rethinking it I would go for white. It will definitely help reflect some of the light back into the tank and make it easier to see inside the canopy.

1+ on the polyurethane, but I would use exterior vs interior. Exterior has weather & UV protection in it. If you go to my 90gal thread, on the custom fish room I built I used like 8-10 coats of exterior polyurethane on the counter/stand I built. I has an overflow issues & it got soaked on top with saltwater. Didn't even damage it & looks like the day I built it.
