I have created this thread to try and point out the Positive things of reefing. Too often I hear about how "expensive" it is, and how much time you have to put into a tank, and how devastating it is when everything dies, and what diseases and algaes to look out for.

I'm happy to announce that after 18 years of smoking, I have decided to give up the habit, (mainly so I can afford my tank....hehe, ;Dlol) but also because I feel that I have found something that is, to me, worth more than feeding my addiction. I'm in no way a hypocrite to any current smokers around me, and I'm not trying to start a big movement, But it's been a long 18 years, and I'm just happy to finally find something I can put in front of that. Not to mention the 150 bucks I save each month...lol.;D

If your tank has, in any way helped you out like mine has, please let us know. It's always good to hear the positive side every now and then.

FWIW, I've been free from smoking for a whole month now, so I can say I'm officially done now. On to my next habit I say......

I tore two tendons in my ankle at the same time my dad went into the hospital with what looked to be a stroke. I couldn't leave my house, because I couldn't walk and more importantly drive. He didn't wake up for 2 weeks, and when he did he was talking completely crazy for another week. He's back stable now and his mind seems to be recovering really well.

At the 2nd day of all this craziness my LEDs came in and I was able to start stocking my tank... I think my tank saved me from going slap crazy over the last 2 months. Something positive to focus on, enjoy and improve. (I still can't believe we can have these creatures in our living rooms!)

You are not even close to done. Not trying to be a downer, just being realistic. Don't let your guard down.... you have many more cravings to get through. Keep up the good work.

I've tried several times with such little luck, I'm glad I have something to give me solice every day I come home. The wife and kids are my favorite, don't get me wrong, they keep me sane. But, nothing came in front of me smoking, not until now.....

Wow Grim, I'm so sorry he had to go through that, I know it's not easy seeing family, especially as close as he is to you, go through such matters. That is truly a story of "This tank was there, right when I needed it". I'm glad to hear he is doing better, and I wish the best as well. Time will heal. It won't bring everything back, but it will heal. Best of luck.

In 18 years I never quit for more than 4 hours, this is the first time in my life I finally realized that quitting WAS really in my head, and not truly a full on addiction like I had thought it was. As soon as I realized that, I was able to move on. But I appreciate the reality check.....I've been doubting myself every day at least once, but I keep moving forward reminding myself that I AM a Tough-nut.

No, it's a full on addiction.... majority of smokers that quit more than 2 weeks start smoking again at 3-6 months. You smoked for 18 years for a reason. Again... not trying to be discouraging... just trying to help you get your head in the game. I quit for 2 years cold turkey without much problem... 2 years later I thought smokings cigars would be a great idea... off and on for another 4 years... now it's been since November... and a cigar still seems like a good idea from time to time. You don't break a 18 year habit in 30 days.... but you CAN break it over time. Stay strong.
