Hello everyone. I was wondering of proper wattage and so on for my marine tank. It is a true 30 gallon. It measures 29.5 inches long (side to side), 11.5 inches wide (front to back), and 20.5 inches tall (top to bottom). I am looking to keep mostly soft corals and maybe things like hammers, torches, and so on. Basically I am trying to get the perfect light for my tank. I would like to stick to pc's or ho and stay away from expensive halides. Any suggestions on products would also be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Salty you can see a new light i just got on line from a local Reefer which would fit your tank perfectly and gives off TONS of light even as your tank is a little deeper. Check here

    Hi there,

my tank is like yours in size. i just installed a 24" TekLight T5 over my tank this past weekend. There is a thread about it in the DIY section.

I am very pleased with it. On that DIY thread, should be a pic of the bulbs i have in my light fixture.

I am sure you will get far more experienced responses, but I am just tossing this out in the event you decide to consider a Tek.

Best of luck to you - once the lighting is over the tank - the FUN begins!

    :)

I would do something like this, If you want a tank mount.

Current USA SunDial T5 HO w/ Timers & LED

If you are going to hang it, then I would probably get the higher quality TEK. It is not available in 30", only 36". It would overhang a little one each end. Still much better reflectors.

I got the 24" Tek for my tank which is 30" long. It gives off PLENTY of light if thats the direction you choose and a 36" light is a concern.

Jon makes a great point - had i not gone with Tek, the exact light that he suggested was going to be what i would get.
