I think i will just print this whole thread out and carry it around with me when i visit my LFS. I can just point at what i want without having to try to pronounce it!

I know i butcher plenty of names and terms - most likely to the amusement of the LFS staff.

Sometimes i catch myself and just point and say "i would like one of those please".

    :)

the only thing that keeps me from making TOO big of a fool out of myself is that fact that i know Koine Greek (also helps immensely with medical terms as well). i'm still working on my Latin...

i do, however, think i pronounce Halide wrong, "hal eyed". i think it's supposed to be "hay lide" ?

    outstanding thread by the way

On the *opora (Acropora etc) note. The original pronunciation is how Inwall states, but I've read (I believe in Borneman's Aquarium Corals book) that it's basically commonly accepted now, even within the scientific community to pronounce it oh-pore-ah instead of op-oh-rah so I don't feel guity not using the original pronunciation. :)
