Pronunciation of Aquarium Terms

Reading that pet peeve thread, particularly the part about pronouncing Cheato as "kay toe" not "cheeto." I never took latin, but my foreign language classes, italian, did teach me to pronounce the "ch" as "k." As an off topic example, a huge pet peeve of mine is when people order "bruchetta" at a restaurant. It's pronounced "bruskaata." Anyways, what else are common mispronunciations that people know of?

I have heard Acanthastrea pronounced as "a-can-thastrea" I have always pronounced it as "a-cane-thastrea." I also pronounce "Crocea" as "Crow-shay-a"

Any others?

 

I hate it when people pronounce "clownfish" as "nemo"

That's my number one pet peeve in the hobby.

I'm sure there are other mispronunciations, but it's too late to think about them.

Hobbyists absolutely butcher proper pronunciation

Acropora....It's not ack roe pour uh, it is Uh Crop or uh
Goniopora....similiar to above.....it Go nee op or uh
Zoanthids....Zoe an thids
Heliopora....hell ee op or uh

There's a lot more, that's just what I can think of right now

Didn't know that! Not like I really talk to anyone out load about the two..but good to know
