I know there is a way to get your overflow pipe to where it will stay primed even during a power outtage. How would I go about doing this. I have a standard overflow box in my tank (tank is not drilled). I need to figure out how to get this done because the power wen out today and lucky I was home when it happened. I do not want to come home one day to a micro bubble tank. Thanks everyone!

if you just have a u-tube, it shouldn't loose suction even with a power outage. check for leaks or clogs/partial blockage. and when you use the air tubing to suck out the air pockets to restart siphon, I always moving the tube up and down like 1" really fast to get ALL of the remaining air bubbles out of tube as its siphoning.

if you have one of those e-hopps tubeless overflow boxes, u need a air lifting pump.

The way I've seen self-starting overflows designed:

good drawing. also my u-tube is a little longer on 1 end. I put the longer end into the outside/rear box containing the drainline. if your u-tube is a little longer on 1 side, put that into the back drain box.

Yeah, that blue area always staying filled is absolutely key to having it self-prime. Without that extra bit of plastic, the overflow won't self-prime, unless there's a pump on there.

I have a U-tube overflow box and whenever I turn off the power it never loses suction. It should be okay....

Whenever I simulate a power outage the tank will drain into the sump until it gets below the overflow box and loose all the water in the over flow tube. So it sucks up air from the overflow box in the tank. Could it be that my u-tube is not long enough?

Pics or a detailed diagram are needed, or we really don't know how your system is set up and can't help.

I think it could be. Because when my tank drains below the overflow, then the overflow stops, and keeps water in the u-tube, therefore not losing the suction.
