There was a thread in the last couple of months that had a pic of a hermit with what looked like a red egg mass coming out of its shell---well yesterday one of my HC decided to change shells. I decided to watch, out came the magnifying glass--- Oh boy was I in for a surprise!! Her body, from behind her front claws to her tail, was covered with a red egg mass. Wish I had a pic, but it happened so fast I wasn't able to catch it. I looked for the old post with the pic but wasn't able to find it. Just wanted to share.

I have a blue crab that gets a red egg sack once in a while. She doesn't have anyone to fertilize the eggs so after a week or so it goes away. So, for lack of a better term, it's like she gets her period. Just thought I'd let you know so you're not wondering where your litter of baby hermits are.

Well- have you ever though you were going crazy? Two days ago I saw a small HC in my tank, about 1/4 " there are some small shells in my tank from my original purchase of hermits---but that was 6 months ago and they all are in 1'' shells now and are all accounted for! I have no idea where it came from and have trouble believing that it was born in my tank, but what other explanation is there? Also thanks for posting you pic cannedmulder, I tried to find it but couldn't. Also I believed I have seen them mating in the tank!

I have some very small crabs in my tank as well, and couldn't figure out where they are coming from. I figured they would have come in on the rock, but I haven't bought new rock in months. Just thought they must be slow growers that were babies on the rock. I leave several very small shells in there just in case.
