Is ther something that I can put inline before the water enters the wet dry or where is does. Like a filter sock or something along that line at any point between the tank and sump. I want to add more mechanical filteration as I try to figure out what do do due. These bio balls getting gunky and now I can tell that this is where the nitrates are coming from that is fueling my algae. I have added felt in my trickle tray as well at the pad that is ther I replaced but the damage has been done, so as I correct it I am trying to not have gunky bio balls again. Any input?

What about a sponge on the intake in your overflows? Just an idea.

I have been using a felt filter pad(FFP) for a while. This week end I went out of town and I had my neighbor take out the FFP as it got clogged without replacing it. For yrs I've had issues with my ph, not passing 8.0.
When I got home on Sunday, my ph was at 8.30. Im aware that no one was home, but Im going to keep an eye on it as these couple of days go by. I was surprised to see that the FFP would affect my ph. Luna

I use a prefilter in my overflow to filter to remove any "bigger" particles so my wet/dry filter remains cleaner for a bit longer.

interesting. I have had my ph set at 8.0 since I put it in! The guy at the lfs swears by the felt but it seems something might not be right if this is the case.

I used to use filter things in my overflow boxes but I found that when they start to get dirty they end up slowing the flow. Now I put a filtersock on my output that goes into the wet/dry (above bioballs) to keep all the gunk out.

I call it a filtersock but it's my ghetto design - a knee high pantyhose that I tighten on with whatever plastic item I can find at the time (zip tie, etc) - ghetto but it works great!
