I would say at least 2 x the 750, assuming you mean "40 gallons, maybe 45" and not "75 gallons" with that +.

It really depends on whether you plan on keeping a FOWLR, softies, LPS, SPS, or anything with super special needs in the tank. I would come up with a plan for stocking before an equipment list, TBQH.

I'd shoot for between 35x-45x tank turnover rate even with a FOWLR. For a 40 gallon tank, between 1400gph and 1800gph. You can extrapolate the numbers for larger tanks. It's really hard to have too much flow, but very easy to not have enough.

Not trying to "steal the thread". When calculating flow rate..I include the sump water volume...so does that mean I also include the gph generated from the return pump?

For the DT turnover, you want something like 20-50x the DT volume to be turned over. For the sump turnover, you want 10x the sump volume.

So, for DT turnover, you add all of the powerheads, then you add the return to the turnover only if the return line is being used to generate flow (for instance, if you have a spraybar, or it's hooked up to locline. it doesn't count if it's just dumped into the tank, not causing real water movement in the DT). The sump only gets the return pump for it's turnover calculation.

I think you did before, too. ::)

I guess I'll continue then as ReefBrush already did & Anthos seems to have had his questions answered.
