So my tank has been ugly with GHA for some time now and i've been cleaning it up and using bio-pellets and I know what the problem is but I haven't pulled together the resources to fix it.

You can chalk it up to being lazy but basically the problem is I use tap water, yes I know the evil tap water monster. I've been pricing out and budgeting for a decent RODI system for after I move out but for now I'll continue to scrub and pluck and do my water changes...

I was sort of starting to get desperate because there is a lot of work in this process so i looked around and saw that turbo snails and astrea snails have been reported to help with some GHA. Fantastic! I'll read up on them and thus I did, looking over several reports of their want to consume GHA. I was more than happy with the findings so Today I went out and Picked up 1 Turbo (since i've heard too many will cause a starvation issue later) and 4 astrea snails... The 4 smaller snails didn't seem to do much when I finished acclimating them and put them in the tank but that turbo snail.. He went to work right away.. I sadly don't have a picture of the rock before I added him (though I wish I did) but I took one moments ago and I'm purely amazed within a few hours he's cut a groove the width of him across a 4-5 inch rock and is still chomping away at it...

I'll post the recent picture later but I'll add more updates of his progress as time goes on.. Its rather amazing how much this one snail has put away in a few hours...

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Yes I have had a lot of success with Turbos and Astraea snail eating GHA with the initial GHA after a cycle and some hermits.

A good CUC and the right CUC can help in a lot of algae issues.

    :)
