    Hi,

just mixing up a new batch of water, and my heater just started smelling, i turned around and it went pop started fizzing and sparking like crazy.

that sucks i know, but i guess a very gradual fill from the sump will over come this problem for now, plus a sit in the sun for the bucket of water.

Question is, after i get the heat and glass out of my bucket, will the heater have left anything in the bucket that will contaminate the water?

only reason for asking is it takes a long time to fill up my ro/di container that i use, and i almost empty it when i got water changes.

    Cheers.

i wouldnt think so, its just has a heating element and probably ceramic in the middle.
next time go titanium or plastic so a sudden change in temp wont shatter it

thanks, i didnt realise they did titanium ones?
i've got a plasic one at the moment in my main setup, this was just a cheap one to heat up the water for changes, obviously didnt pay off.

all done and water changed, luckily it only exploded into 3 large peices, which i pushed back together to check there wasnt any small bits fallen off, as far as i can see there wasn't. slowly filling up in the sump pint glass at a time was a bit of hassel, but only had half a degree max temp difference which im happy with, fish and coral all seem fine :).

IMO...keep this thread open so others can see and learn about heaters. Maybe protect someone from getting shocked. Glad you were ok!!!
