So i picked up a diopter kit and used the +4 and the +10 lens. Not bad semi macro shots for under 30.00
Any tips to maybe get in even closer would be great. Someday ill have the money saved up for a macro lens. The pics are taken with a Canon Rebel XS with 55mm lens

Those are certainly impressive shots, would have thought they were with a professional camera. One of the best things to do while taking macros, is to turn off all the flow, and use a tripod or keep very still. Makes the polyps much clearer and more defined. The flow can blur or agitate the image quality a bit.

cool thank you for the advice, i had to hold the camera by hand, because it would only focus in on corals that where less then 5" away. Because of that i couldnt use my tripod, because i couldnt get close enough. I guess i need to setup a 1g nano for photo taking hehe

For a 'poor mans macro' those are very good shots! Wonder how much of an improvement the lens will make. :)

Take your lens off and hold it backwards while you shoot. Pretty tricky to do but works. ;D
