No flash when shooting fish yet. I still have to buy a remote flash for that. I've found that the built-in flash isn't worth a lick when shooting the tank.

Thanks for the kind words, jonjon!

Thanks aquariaman! Most of the photos were shot with a Canon Rebel XT until this year when I bought a Canon 60D. Macros are shot with the 100mm/2.8 lens. Fish pix are shot with either the macro or the 50mm/1.8. The standard lens that came with the camera fills in the rest. In terms of settings, it really varies with what I am trying to do and capture. For corals, I can go with a low shutter and ISO to make things really clear. For fish, I have to kick the shutter speed up, which will usually mean an increase in ISO to match. There is really no simple formula. You just have to keep practicing and play with all the different camera settings and combos to get the best looking pix :)

Thanks for the info. I haven't used a flash in my reef yet either. And definitely agree with the attached flash being useless for the tank shots. I have the macro lens you mentioned and use a Canon T3i. I have purchased a 50/1.4 and 17-55mm/2.8 to replace the kit lens that came with my camera.

No worries. I wished I had gotten the 1.4 instead of the 1.8. In hindsight, couple of extra hundred was worth it. The lens I really want is the 24-70/2.8 but that mean digging a deeper hole than I would like :(

    Thank you, Grandad! :)

I am drooling over that lens and the 70-200/2.8.
