I found a pom pom crab in the bottom of a bucket today while emptying it to make some salt for a water change. I think he fell out of the live rock I bought from a LFS in my area breaking down a system after changing around his store. I used that particular bucket to move the rock. He's probably been in there for about a week or so? I put him back in the DT ( didn't have time to acclimate him to the tank as I had to be at work in 40 mins and work 20 from my house) and he scurried under a rock ... I noticed his pom poms are gone. What's his chances?

I am not entirely sure of the chances but if he's been in a bucket for a week it seems like he's a pretty tough guy. Hope he makes it.

They do not need their poms to survive. They a a cryptic and reclusive nocturnal crab. If its over 40 gallons I would venture you will see him 4-5 times a year

I had mine in a 55g and saw him 3-4 times maybe before we upgraded to the 125g. I've seen him twice in the last 14 months. To be fair, My melarunus wrasse may have eaten him.

Thanks for the encouraging input. Hope he makes it, I didn't see him cause he was in an orange homedepot bucket, kinda blended in with the bottom.

If you add another, I've heard the other will split one of its anemones for your current one to have. Then when it's a bit bigger your current will split it again so he has two.

That's really awesome. Let me see how mine makes out. If he's still around in a few weeks perhaps I'll get another one.
