For the amount of money I spent on getting this tank ready for a mandarin, lets just say that $20 fish cost around $500, lol. $200 or so for pods, and $250 for the hog CPR fuge

Wow! I don't believe I have that many, not sustainably anyways. Do they feed on phyto (pods that is)?

well, to be fair, the fuge wasn't for the mandarin alone, but was def needed for it, and like 2in10 stated, these things fly through pods, and you should really wait at least a year to add to a tank, so the pod population is stable. I rushed that to 6 months, so I seeded the tank for months after adding the mandarin. I no longer seed because my pod population is insane, but I'm gonna start again after the transfer. Got too much invested to let the little guy starve;)

Well this tank has been up for 15 months now. I don't think I would add it to this one though. I'll be adding it to my 55 witch will contain all 35 pounds of LR (plus 20+ lbs of base) and pre-cycled water.

If you don't have a fuge for a safe breeding zone for the pods, the mandarin will wipe that tank clean in a few days.I had an over population of pods with no fuge,my leopard wrasse wiped my tank clean the first week I got it.

I'll have fuge. My current 20 gallon will be it.
