i want a mandorin goby in the worst way. how do i start the pod population in my tank to get them reproducing so i can eventually have what i want. i know ill have to target feed too but i want to do things as natural as possible. no refugium right now has to be done in the DT

If you're talking about the 38, you're going to have to add a 20+ gallon refugium, and get one trained onto frozen/pellet foods in order for this to be feasible long term. They will DECIMATE a population of pods very quickly in that size tank; they eat nearly 600 pods per day normally.

These are the pods I bought and have been doing well in my fuge but you can get other stuff. You need a fuge so they can reproduce. You may also want to make sure that you have plenty of rock so they can hide when they do make it into your tank. My mandarin doesn't eat anything I feed the tank but I know it's doing well because it's a little fatty. I personally have a 46 bowfront and a 20 high sump with a small fuge and have had no issues. I can literally see pods in my fuge since I poured in those pods and that was about 2 months ago or a bit longer.

Good luck! They are awesome and so are skooter blennies. If you like Mandarins, just google the "dragonet" family and see what you think. The spotted goby is sweet looking too. Nice options with them.

the one in your pic is very nice. this is for future plans because thats the fish ive wanted since i started salt water besides a lion which will be waiting a few years until im more expereinced. im designing a new stand now so i can put a 20 gal sump refugium underneath. i could only fit a 10 right now. and i also have about 56 pounds of rock in my tank. i dont want anymore because it already touches the glass in the back and i dont feel safe like that lol

once you get a big fuge set up and have pods added to it wait 6 months then you can try a mandarin but it will be hard to keep one alive. in the mean time dont add any wrasses, some gobies, pipefish because they eat pods.

You can also try something that I did. I quarantined mine in a small tank before I dropped him in the display tank. I first started feeding him live brine. When he started eating them I switched to frozen brine. Then misis. This doesn't work all the time but mine eats misis and pellets.;D

The hardest part is getting them to recognize something dead as food.;D
