Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has ever plumbed their Refugium from their protein skimmer outlet? Do you think this would be a bad idea?

I have a 112G with a 40G sump and now a soon to be 55G display refugium next to the main tank. I plan on draining the refugium into my return section of my sump using gravity but I'm stumped on how to get water to my refugium :-[.

The pump on my protein skimmer is about 200GPH and if going to the refugium it will have about 3.5 feet of head.

    Thanks in advance!

I think so, you want the refugium to have "dirty" water. Water from the skimmer would be "clean".

A skimmer is a open vessel, you can't pump water up from it. Plus, you don't want clean water going to the fuge, you want it nice and dirty to feed the plants.

It's going to have to have a overflow to the sump and a return pump for it or slit off a bigger main return pump.
