im setting up a sump and all my inlets are 3/4in. now my pump has i believe a 1/2in outlet. i was thinking that id used a 1/2in tubing like an air line to get it to the to then switch it over to 3/4in. would this be ok?

Airline is pretty thin walled, I would go with braided pvc if you want a flexline. Then they have lots of barbed fitting to get you to 3/4 or whatever you need.

up-sizing the tubing will not be an issue. It will actually allow unimpeded flow more so than 1/2" tubing. Be sure to get a thicker walled vinyl or flexible PVC tubing to make the connection. You can use a barbed fitting if you are going with vinyl or PVC fitting if going with PVC - either one will work and is readily available at you local hardware store.

Step up to 3/4" as soon off the pump as possible for less head loss and better pump performance. I would install a 1/2"x3/4" bushing or a 3/4" barbed nipple on the outlet and run all 3/4" braided reinforced tubing or the heavy wall black tubing. The larger diameter provides less resistance to flow so is easier on the pump.

If you are using PVC it should be glued with PVC glue and primer or I prefer threaded PVC fittings in many cases since you can reuse the fittings over and over. The threaded PVC uses either teflon tape or a thread sealant stick to lubricate and seal the threads.

To attach PVC to tubing you use barbed nipples which have standard pipe or PVC threads on one end and a barbed fitting the tubing slides over on the other.
