Didn't know where to put this so into general reef topics it goes

I'm gettin a diffrent skimmer that will be run external to my sump. In order to do that I have to move my sump all the way to the right of my stand. I have to redo my plumbing to do this.

Question is this saveable or do I have to get new bulkheads and start from scratch [pita]
Sump has to move about 6 inches right

I'm not the greatest with plumbing, but it looks like you may have to start over. If you had some more length from the bottom of the "T" in the top left of the pic, you could cut off the valve and 45 and then add an elbow or something like that to get you enough room and clearance to move it 6", but it doesn't look like you will have enough to glue another piece on the end. You may have enough room between the 45 and valve to cut off the valve and add a new piece to the 45, but I can't how much pipe is between the 45 and valve.

Ya there is nothing really to glue to if I cut any part of the drain. Maybe somebody has some magic plumbing secret lol

On another note if I have to replace that bulkhead and start from scratch would the pressure of the water from the tank on the overflow be ok? I mean to switch that it the overflow has to be completely drained.

well, it depends on how you glued it in the first place. if you used priner and the clear glue, you can heat it up and the pipe should slide out. If you used the blue rain or shine, you will have to replace the bulkheads. use a small portable torch and gently heat them and it should slide apart. sand the pipe down when done and re-glue.

Yes, if you drain the overflows, they should handle the water pressure. at least they did when you filled it in the first place.

I would have to agree - you might as well take and redo your plumbing from the bulkhead out. There would not be enough to attach to without excessive work. Also PVC is very cheap and easy to work with, you might as well redo and do it right.

Yes you can heat off the primer and glue but you need a pretty strong heat gun and you need to be EXTREMELY careful when you de-thread the female adapter from the male end of the bulkhead because it will be hot and malleable still. You will want to have your new female adapter ready to put on as soon as the old one comes off and there is no garantee of it no getting warped. Most likely going to need to replace the bulkhead fittings as well to be safe, especially since you will already have the overflow drained and you will already be under that cabinet, uncomfortably contorted to do the damn thing!!!

    Best of luck!!!!

ok, just cut the pvc above the "T" and take your bulk head out clamp lightly in a vice and cut a slot in the pvc length wise almost to the inside of the bulk head then heat the white pvc you cut till it starts to get soft then with a pair of channel locks wrap the pvc around the channel locks as if you were opening a can of tuna with the little key like thing that comes on the can. pvc does not glue together it expands into one another by a chemical reaction. hope it helps you. to bad you dont have a little more pipe to work with it would be a lot easer.p.s. if the pvc is old it gets a little brittle and is hard to do.

well if i have to take the bulkhead all they way out of the tank then ill just replace it rather then save it. how to i get all the water out of the overflow before i take the bulkhead and drain tube out??
