So, I have decided to plumb my Biopellet reactor (running WM Ecobak biopellets, btw) inline with my skimmer...

The way it is run is like this:

Overflow from tank > Split into sump & skimmer feed > booster pump > pellet reactor > skimmer > sump > return

After two days of running this way, I'm still pulling skimmate... since these biopellets are fresh ones, I left the old biopellet sock hanging in the overflow area as it has been for 12+ months, at least until I feel the pellets in the reactor have had a chance to colonize new bacteria, which I expect to not take as long since there were already pellets in my setup.

I'm looking for opinions on running a setup like this... it's already plumbed and it's working well... I can't think of any major downsides except for the booster pump failing, which would stop the skimmer from skimming properly, however, since the overflow is split between the skimmer and the sump to begin with, this shouldn't cause a problem. Also, I could see if the pellet reactor gets clogged, it would drop the skimmer height as well...

Anyway, anyone want to chime in with opinions or just wish me luck with this setup? Hopefully, I'll have some good results to share in a few weeks time...

I plan to run WM ecoBAK biopellets on my 29g reef. The reactor will be in the sump (running on a maxijet 1200); the waste line will go into the skimmer section.

I don't understand why you have the booster pump? Are you running the booster pump on your skimmer pump for the biopellets? Or?...

The booster pump increases the flow going into the pellets and thus into the skimmer... it seems to be needed to get the pellets to tumble and a good height on the skimmer...

Didn't know that. On the ecobak thread I thought Jon said ecobak only required approximately a 100gph pump.

Interesting... this pump is 160gph, so it's not that much bigger...
