So I have my new diy stand built, all the plumbing is done and I filled the tank up with tap water to test plumbing and water levels. My stand is all level and plumb with tank on top of it. I don't know why I did this but while the tank was full and going through the water test I took a piece of paper to check for gaps between the tank and the top of the stand. I was able to slide a sheet of paper between the wood top and the black trim of the tank. The tank seemed 100% stable but I'm kind of worried that the tank may crack with these mirco gaps. It can't be more than 100th of an inch or so becuase if I fold the paper in half it won't slip under the gap. Will the tank be ok or do you guys suggest I do something about it? If so, what? Sorry for the long post and thanks to all who reply!!

I'm not an engineer...but glass will flex some. That small sounds fine to me...but again, I'm not an engineer.

I would think the tank will "settle out" after being fill and would have a 1/100" flex to it,it doesn't sound like it's enough to bend or twist the tank enough to cause trouble.I've never done the paper test, but my floors are not level and i always have to shim the stands, all i've ever done with the tank(after stand is level and secure)is make sure it does not teeter and sets flat.

My tank is the same way, and always has been. The plastic trim on the tank bottom is to protect the glass, and distribute evenly any variances/imperfections in the surface on which the tank rests.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks guys K+ to ya both. I never did the paper test with my previous tank either but I'm just being anal about this build and taking my time. It seemed 100% ok when filled with tapwater but I was kinda worried with more weight i.e. (sand,LR and the fact that saltwater is heavier than fresh water) that it may crack or something bad :( The stand is def. strong enough though. I guess the 5/8 sheet of plywood isn't exactly flat and true unless I sanded too much in a few areas of the urethane got but on a little thick in a couple spots. Again, thanks for your input guys!

Put some eggcrate in the bottom before the rock. It will help more evenly distribute the weight of the rock through the base of the tank.
If you're still in time, do the eggcrate, then aquascape and last thing, add the sand around the rocks. You don't have to finish all the aquascape, just whatever amount so the rock will stay above the sand bed. This is something I will definitely do if I ever need to strip my tank.

If you don't want to put eggcrate as an anti-rock slide option you can do the rubber mat people put in drawers.

+1 Thanks I have the eggcrate and was planning to use on the bottom before the rock and sand go in!

I think it is the trim flexing. So as everybody has said you're good to go.
