No worries , I had a real problem with my tank, loss of snails was the start of it.
I installed a new RODI and joined it t my sump with a float to "top up" then went away in business for 3 weeks, when I came back, my live rock was black, al the snails were dead and now all my corals have finished dying............ The RODI unit stripped out all the calcium and other elements, my evaporation is about 8 litres a day 240 litres a month, which meant that when I tested my water, calcium didn't register at all.
Been a very expensive lesson to learn, and lost 18 months worth of work and commitment............... So much for doing the right thing, installing a water filter :)

I'm a little confused. You aren't running your tank water through your RODI are you?

Ammonia was one of the possible answers. I guess those are the symptoms for an ammonia spike. My nitrates, salinity, and pH ended up being the problem.

Since nobody else mentioned it, using a product to raise your pH can be dangerous, and is the wrong way to go about it. Get your alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and surface flow adjusted, and pH should not be an issue.

Thats what it sounds like......I read an interesting article about RODI and one of the only things it does not purify out of water is Splenda. Apparently in Scandinavia they run there sewage through RODI and it of course turns it into pure clean water and then they run the clean water into the ocean, although they are finding Splenda deposits that accumulates on the surface of the Baltic and North seas because the RODI doesn't remove it.

This whole situation is why I'm conflicted in terms of getting snails. Sure, they help you and do their job, but when they die, they can be a problem, causing phosphates, ammonia, and nitrates to rise.

Yep! the whole reason Splenda is 0 calories is because it cannot be digested, Apparently RODI cannot filter it either. My parents went to Sweden two years ago to pick up a car and they noticed the Swedes really like Splenda, alot.
