Yes I expected much worse. Looks to be a little cyanobacteria, not sure is that would play a part.

K+ For having more guts than me, I have done a lot of wild things, but still have not jumped out of a plane. :)

it was kind of a dare... lol I do like the adrenaline rush which is why i had to get rid of my motorcycle lol.

so what do you recommoned? I have been getting purplish algae growth on my rocks and gravel it almost looks like coraline but its not hard its almost like a film. my emerald crab has been doing an ok job there is just too much for him to eat. I have been doing more frequen water changes this week i have to do another one. the sun polyp feeding is whats killing me. Almost everyday i feed it frozen food. The plate is looking better i had never seen it closed up i guess thats why i freaked

How old is the tank. For cyanobacteria I always start with improving the surface agitation if possible.

Check phos and nitates, even though I am not a huge believe in that is it solely driven by that.

Improving flow through out the tank making sure there are not large dead spots, that is where it grows the fastest.

Sometimes it just has to run it's course though IME.

moved him back to his old spot...woke up this morning and he's open. Also looks like he has a lot more tentacles .... is this a sign of growth maybe?

From what I have read about plates they usually like finer sandbeds. These coral can move on their own but sharper edges bother their undersides. Your sandbed might be irritating it. JM2C ;)

ill look into that....It's too much work at this time to replace my gravel to sand. If I would have known better I would never have bought the crushed coral. He looks like he gets all bunched up at night. During the day its almost like its growing or something...it had new tentacles little ones by the mouth that I never saw before.

yea if he was really unhappy you will see him move- very slowly but he will move- plates can really puff themselves up- mine does it all the time, but you do not need to feed them very often, might want to cut back on feedings- try 2 times a month. corals in the wild a pretty much stationary, so they dont eat every day, or every week for that matter- might want to consider this.

plates really like a lot of light IME.
