    i dont know, thats the main reason why i started this thread....... type styrofoam background reef tank and google it, i saw a few tanks using styrofoam...

    Interesting. Seems like others are doing it with success. I would be hesitant, personally.

    Doesnt styofoam take thousands of years to decompose hence the landfill messes we have? Pretty sure such a slow decomp rate would have minimal impact on a tank but I dont believe it releases anything really to begin with.

    But what about the salt water breakdown? It won't be exposed to light, right? So that will help, but I'd be worried about an adverse effect from saltwater. Saltwater not equal to freshwater.
