Im am sorry for you lost. I think we have all lost a fish a time or two when we fought hard to keep them alive.

It is what it is. Had him about 6 months. But he had been in captivity a Long while. Mean fish so it gives me a better opportunity for some others

Good read man, just took me about 3 days off and on to read through this. Beautiful tank! Sorry to hear about your recent loss but i agree, sounds like it will open up some good possibilities for you. I had the same situation a while back, had gotten a Vol Lion from work for free that i nursed back to health... Problem was it really killed my options for getting new fish (reef wise). Unfortunately, killed him and everyone else off in the move a few months back. Just now beginning to restock. I'd love for this to be my upgrade in the next couple of years. I noticed you mentioned having a Tomni Tang in your old 75. What all did you have in it fish wise and was it a 48"?

Anyway, again, awesome tank. Definitely an inspiration and i'm glad you've hung in there...

Epsilon, it has been a fun ride with this tank. been on a tight budget so a little at a time was how it was built. The 75 was a 4' tank. Loved that tank. miss it dearly as it was very overgrown with coral. Sadly, tulip anemonees took over it so it was time for it to break down. as for fish, at the time of breakdown, I had a purple tang, powder brown, tomini, pair of GSM clowns and a royal gramma.

Back to the 180. Friday night put in 25 scoops of Chemiclean. killed the air to the skimmer and let it work its magic for 48 hours. as of last night there was ZERO Cyano on the rocks! YAY! I also blew them off really good and turned the water on high to flush it out into a filter sock. after 48 hours, I changed about 45 gallons of water. Thankfully I just mixed the new water in my top off bin and pumped it into the sump. took about 30 mins total to change it. Fired the tank back up and tweaked the skimmer alot to get it to foam but not overflow. Love that I can control the air amount going into the skimmer.

all tank inhabitants look great and most of the acro's were throwing some serious polyps last night. I need to get a FTS soon. maybe this evening if i get to it.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Hmmm interesting about the chemipure and the cyano, curious about "killing the air to the skimmer", does this allow the chemipure to be more effective, might be a silly question.

Must have been effective on more than one front if the PE of the acropora improved, cool.

I look forward to the FTS. :)

Coralline, on the box it says to turn off skimmer and UV during treatments. Supposedly it does something to the water tension that can then cause the water to foam much more easily. they do recommend you put in an airstone to keep water oxygenated.

when I cut off all water to my skimmer, the increased pressure of the extra 1000gph pushes more water into the display so I just killed the air to it during treatment.

Is this Chemi-pure as in the activated carbon?

Sorry for the confusion, or is this a product that specifically targets algae?

    Thanks.
