We now have Thousands of PODS in the tank. No clue how they got in there, but they were.

Yesterday morning I threw away the shrinking ball of chaeto and when I got home, the glass was covered in thousands of white specs. upon closer inspection, they moved and quite fast. most were the size of a pin head, others smaller still. but they moved FAST. I finally got a good close look at one of the larger ones and indeed they are pods. YAY! im quite impressed at the numbers too. lets hope they do well. there is plenty of fish poo for them!

just an update on the tank. nothing reallly exciting to add except for the fact that I now am fighting a Cyano outbreak. since I test ZERO on Phosphate and Nitrates, i have researched and come to the conclusion that it is due to the vodka dosing. Since Vodka is a carbon source that feeds and boosts bacteria populations, and since I was overdosing it due to a bad test kit, I have an overabundance of it available in the water and the Cyano bacteria is feeding off it.

we have completely stopped all vodka dosing and will not resume it untill i see nitrates come back into the tank or the Cyano leaves. and then it will be a total of .5Ml to start off with.

Man that has to suck. Sorry to hear about that. How are you going to handle the cyano problem?

no kidding it sucks.. it is just spotty in a few places. I am scooping it out weekly and just not dosing the vodka. I have no phosphates in the water both top off and tank water, and once everything settles back in, I should be good to go. I gave the rocks a good scrubbing to get off all the dead green algae and running the skimmer a bit wet.

    to explain all that:

got ICh early on in the tank. while the bio filter was good, i hadnt gotten the CUC yet. went 5 weeks with Hypo and zero CUC, so I had a good bit of green growth on the rocks. since bringing the salinity back, I have added a modest CUC. also dosing the vodka and getting the skimmer fine tuned, removed all the nutrients the algae fed off and the snails and crabs have done an ok job removing it after it browned up and started to recede. the rocks have taken on a whole new color in places. almost a faint purple look as the coraline is really taking off.

I have noticed that the cyano is not spreading like it had and is getting slower in its growth, so hopefully we are on the right track with it.

Lets hope so. as of now, things are looking good. teh rock has taken a major overhaul and is really starting to look good. I have noticeable growth already in the Milli, poci, and stylo, and some of the acro's are starting to encrust.
