Its a 55 gal with a total hood length of 48" but they are seperated for two 24" ones if that makes sense? :S

Ok that makes sense, I would then suggest a 48" 4-bulb T5 fixture if you want to get something that will be worth the long run. Check the links I posted initially and just make sure it's a 48" fixture.

Putting two 24" bulbs over your 55g tank will not support much, if anything, based on what bulbs types you're looking at PC, T5.

My biggest mistake in this hobby was getting less expensive equipment first only to then want & buy the quality stuff later. All it did was stuck me with a lot of cheap things that noone wanted and it was wasted $ sitting in storage now.

Ya, I was going to get one soon, I just don't like the bulbs I have in it now.

Are the fixtures PC (power compact) or T5 ones? If you are keeping those two hoods on for a bit and must try corals, I would suggest ATI Blue + & ATI AquaBlue Special bulbs if they are T5 fixtures. If they are PC I would recommend a 10K bulb paired with maybe an Actinic bulb, but again, you will prob not be able to support much or any corals under them. The ATI's you'll def have a better shot at like mushrooms or leathers, etc.

    PC

I'm hoping to get a lighting fixture within the month. Right now I'm just worried about cycling and getting the live rock so I can start curing it. I prob won't be stating on corals until Jan or Feb anyways. I want to take it slow for now.

going slow is a great idea when it comes to SW, you won't have to worry about lighting during your cycle or curing. best of luck!
