I just read a post about running a phosphate reactor too much may cause coral bleaching? Is this true?

You know, I've actually been wondering why my ricordea isn't as bright as I've seen others be. Maybe my phosphate reactor could be to blame. I'm along for any info.

I noticed the very next day that my ric and fuzzy shrooms shrunk a lot. SPS looks good.

I've never heard of this, I run a Phosban 150 reactor with Chemi Pure Elite media, never had any issues. On the flipside everything got better after running it, shrooms began opening, colors looked better.

I've read a good amount on reactors before getting one and never came across anything on them being bad for corals. In terms of "running them too much" it's kinda vague. Most everyone I know of runs theirs 24/7, I wouldn't see a benefit without doing so.

Maybe using an aluminum based media and exhausting it to the point of leeching back into the system, yes, that's a bad thing & could def harm things.

The issue is more running too much media rather than running one at all. Its better to use a smaller amount of media and run it continosuly than to run a bunch of media for a short time which will cause problems such as bleaching.

that makes more sense, overdoing it with media capacity, good to know.

I think it's because the media can pull out some other trace elements, so you don't want to do that lol.

I run phosban. It says it will not leach back into the water no matter how saturated the media becomes. I am asking because my plate anemone died and now my brain coral has a light spot on it. My params are perfect and my lights are good. I am wondering if the phosphate reactor is to blame.

Hmm.. that kinda makes sense. Thanks. I will test tonight. I follow instructions on the amount but perhaps I should have used 1/2.
