I recently moved and since the move have had a problem with green hair algae growing (mostly on the backglass). I think the problem is due to increased sunlight (which I am working on blocking). The LFS here insists that Phosguard is a must for virtually any reef tank. I haven't had much luck with Phosguard but ChemiPure Elite has worked for me in the past. So, I am thinking of switching back (I have only had to use it sporadically in the past- I know it is essentially a band aid). Anyway, I would like to get some feedback regarding successes or unsuccesses with Phosguard. By the way, my labs are good.
    Thanks,
    Jim

They work differently. Phosguard won't do a great job for you unless you follow the instructions to the "T". I.e. Test phosphorus, put in Phosguard, Remove after 3 days (I think) and replace. Wait 3 days, test again, etc.

It will remove phosphorus very quickly....much quicker than Chemipure Elite. However, it is DEFINITELY more work. Chemipure Elite is pretty much drop it in and replace in a month.

I use PhosGuard exclusively now. I have tried several different brands to include BRS, and ChemiPure. Nothing has worked in my tank as well as PhosGuard. This is just my tank though.... every tank is different.
