PH levels shot up all the sudden

    I tested my water todsy like I do every other day and my PH 8.6 ALK 1.8 Nitrites 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrates 0 what should I do???

    Is that the dKH value ?

    I would just wait and see 8.6 is nothing to panic about, especially if it is at the end of the photoperiod.

    To tell you the truth I dont have dKH test kit still on the learning curve but will def get one tom and check it out, what should the levels be for dKH?

    She meant your Alk level. 1.8... what? What's the units?

    absolutely. low alkalinity can lead to PH swings.

    Probably meq/l.

    Especially since low alk usually means LOW pH, not high pH, and 1.8/8.6 would be a bit hard to achieve with 1.8 dkh.

    sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys computer took a dump. but blackraven was right its meq/l i just tested it again and its reading the same thing.
