I am in need of some saltwater and the petco by me has big containers of saltwater for 89cents a gallon.
    Is it okay?
I'm just not in the mood to be mixing water this weekend

I would run some tests on it. Calcium, alk, mag, and salinity. If all checks out, I see no problem. I doubt cal/alk/mag will, though.

I wouldn't use it. They only use filtered tap water. It most likely will be full of nitrate and phosphate at whatever level your municipalities water comes out of the tap.

I would also check the SG as well.

Besides checking all the normal parameters(because it is helpful for you to know and share with others), most important, are going to be the PO[SUB]4[/SUB] and the NO[SUB]3[/SUB].

There is no telling what contaminants are in that water. I would not trust they started with 0 TDS water before mixing in the salts.

I wouldn't use premixed SW from PetCo. Even if it were free and delivered.

I agree with above posts, unless you are talking about the containers that are prepackaged that are supposedly REAL Ocean Saltwater, like this:

PETCO Real Ocean Water at PETCO

I believe that this would be safe to use, because it is Natural Sea Water, though I would still be cautious with using it and test the params before just "adding it straight to the aquarium".

Still, the best advice I can give you is to use RODI water with 0 TDS and use your own salt mix, as this is the only way to have guaranteed safe results, especially with a reef aquarium. But in a pinch I believe that NSW is ok to use.
