So as some of you know I added my mis bar clown today, Im just wondering what is good behavior between the two, My male clown went right over to her and is swimming by her side every second and turning on his side and shaking..

I thought that the smaller one would become the male and he would become the dominant female. Now im confused with whats happening, they seem to be getting along but he seems to acting submissive or is he just saying "hey im into you lets pair up! haha.

Any help or advice would be great :)

If you had one clownfish alone for more than a couple weeks it's most likely a female now. Once female they rarely can become male again.

What you describe sounds like perfectly normal clownfish behavior.

Hopefully the new clown is a sexually immature male. ( good when it's a clownfish, not so good when they are humans). ::)

You know... I haven't come across anything that defines how long it takes a clown on it's own to transition to female - obviously left unchallenged it would make the change but some say it can take months for it to complete the change.

I didn't think it was possible to revert back to male from Female - I've always read that it was a one way street.

It does sound like the two are pairing up - the male seems to be instinctively submitting. Can you tell us size wise - how big the new misbar is in relation to your existing clown? As Corailline mentioned hopefully the new clown is immature and they will both take their natural roles.

But just from what you said I think it will all work out since if the two couldn't or wouldn't pair then you would have a battle going on in your tank.

I had one, and it was paired up but the female jumped.. that was probably about a week and a half ago... so I dunno if it switched or not haha, but they seem to be getting along, I think its an immature male I hope. I would be awesome I could get an immature fish instead of an immature boy :p lol it usually goes the other way around thought

There are 2 documented cases by experts, I will see if I can find them and pm the link to you. One pair was a hybridized breeding pair, I will look for it again for you.

For the change I hear a general consensus of 2 weeks to 2 months, but I am sure there are so many variables. But you would have a much better idea on the specifics than I would. :)

There is definitely no battles going on, he is following the new one left and right he was being very submissive towards her, I mean when it was floating in the bag he was still hanging up near it haha. The new clown is slightly smaller than the one I had previously. Here's a pic
