I will paint the bottom trim too. But I will just tape and newspaper off the glass and paint away; that's not near the water. My cabinet will also have a lip to hide most of the bottom trim, but I will paint it anyway so it will match.

You will want to scuff the plastic with some sandpaper before painting to get better adhesion.;)

+1 to this. I painted my 29's trim black, it was woodgrain, and I scuffed it up and used Krylon fusion and it's held up like a dream.

By vinyl I think he meant instead of painting the trim, get some adhesive backed vinyl in your preferred color and apply it to the trim, then razor blade off the excess and your done. No fumes and no mess, not a bad idea actually. Might look on ebay for some vinyl.

do you really have to use spray paint? I used behr ultra premium to paint my trim black and I just used a regular brush. you hardly notice the brush marks when looking at it. I hadn't thought of sanding it down either, but it went on just fine. I have some nicks but that is entirely my fault from moving the light fixture too much. nothing a little touch-up won't fix.

For those of you wondering, this is what I had in mind.

If I had to do this - I would use a sponge brush and painter's tape Seano. Spray paint is a no-go to me.

Thanks for the suggestion, Matt. I am still looking into my options.

I need to build the cabinet before i worry about painting the tank frame.

I've just finished my framing drawing. I need to buy wood if we have money leftover next payday.
