OK so i'm buying a 46 bow that has wood grain trim and brown hood. Any way i could go about painting it black that'd be safe? And could i paint the hood and it'd be fine? or would i have to buy a new hood?

Krylon fusion is said to be reefsafe after it dries. I would use an enamel over spraypaint. Always looks better, but for the trim you might be ok.

Just cover the tank EXTREMELY well, just in case.

Kashoub, take a look at my album, I have pics of re-painting tank trim since I JUST did this yesterday. Get Krylon Fusion spraypaint, mask everything off very well, and you will be all set.
I see no issue with doing the hood too, that Fusion paint sticks to plastic VERY well. I bought two cans though, they are 5 bucks each at home depot, but you go through them fast since you will need multiple coats.
