I purchased a used Aquamedic Octopus 3000 controler and it came with an ozone generator. I was wondering if anybody is using one. I am a little scared since I have read a few things where it says if used improperly can by harmful to humans:drool::uzi::loco:
I have an SWC Xtreme 300 Protein Skimmer
    260 Gallon Tank
    Setting up an aggresive reef

Just trying to find out the goods and bads and if its even worth it!

I've heard good things about it. I have also read you must use carbon to absorb the odor / excess ozone entering the air. Thinking about starting this myself.

They aren't dangerous if they are controlled and you use carbon. Make sure your skimmer is ozone-safe if you aren't using an ozone reactor.

I have run O3 for about 1.5 yrs and love what it has done for my water quality. I discharge all my skimmer water over carbon and I also run the generator off a controller with a ORP probe. Makes the water look like glass.

    What Otty says below.

I like it but it does come with issues and those issues must be understood. In the "olden days" it was more important because even our best protein skimmers were crap compared to what's available today. There's even excellent activated carbon available now that didn't used to be around. With excellent skimming and proper use of GAC and/or other chemical filtration, it's not as needed as it once was. However, I love it.

Even though I love it, I didn't use it at PR. I couldn't get employees to stop fiddling with the becketts so how could I assume they wouldn't mess with an ozonizer. Messing with a beckett could mean no skimming or a minor flood....messing with an ozonizer could mean $15 grand worth of inventory that is dead.
