Anyone got any experience with how much rock you can put in a 55?

I have a shelf rock that i want to put in but it weighs about 25-30 lbs.

There is about 30 lbs of rock and 30lbs of sand in it already and the tank is sitting on a regular metal stand with one cross-brace underneath.

    Ty in advance!

most pepole have said about 1lb per gal of water... Now looking at your set up being safe of course is better...

    Best of luck

The tank can handle all of that and then some - the stand - not too sure - maybe you could post some pics of stand? A lot of the times if a stand is inadequate it can be bolstered with some extra supports . . .

I second that, its all about your stand for weight. look at your lfs, i know mine has rock stacked all the way to the top for storing it, so its a matter of A. dont overload your stand with the weight of the water, sand, rock, equipment. etc. and B. how ever much rock suits your need. I have about 27lbs of it in my little 20 gallon long tank, with 20lbs of sand, so your 55 would be able to EASILY double that. but once again its your call on how much you think is good.

My knowledge ...about 1.3lbs per gallon or 1-2 generally speaking. But like the others, I definitely would check how much weight the stand can accomodate. What type of LR are you getting?
    Good luck :)

i would think the water might weigh more than what the rock displaces. water is heavy. just a thought.

The stand is made of steel. It has plenty of support in the back, the front however is a rebar looking material that is curved with a 3-1/2" X 1/2" weld on each of the front legs. The weld is pretty thick so im thinking it will be fine by what u guys have given me. Thanks again!
