Please see my DIY overflow system and DIY sump sytem in my DT video.

It's shown near the end of it.

Please let me know if you have any questions about it.

HIgh flow, works great, and real $ cheap.

Have you ruled out drilling the tank?

No I haven't, but this is my DT and I'm not going to empty it. Is it safe to drill the tank with live stock in it? I wouldn't think so.

If you're going with a HOB over flow stick with the old school U-tube style.

Weirs require some type of pump like an aqualift to restart your siphon after a power outage.

I used CPR overflows with aqualifters too and liked it about as much as I can for an external overflow. Gotta keep those aqualifters maintained! I had some flooding because I had a drilled 125 and decided to give up on maintenance until it was up so my aqualifter gunked up over 7 months lol

I saw the video, but I couldn't really see the part of the overflow in the tank. Do you have pics of that?

Would a flow rate of 300 gph be enough for a 40 breeder? Doesn't your return pump have a lot to do with this? If you are returning more water to DT from your sump, couldn't you have a higher flow rate for an overflow box?

pretty sure a higher gph overflow than your return pump would be good.
Not positive but i think that since your overflow will only take water from the surface it will only take as much as your return pump throws at it, but if your overflow couldnt pull as much water as your return pumped, your DT would overflow. so i think its better to have a higher gph overflow...
