+1. The u-tube style is the only way to go in my opinion. As previously mentioned, the CPR style are unreliable. C'mon you need an aqualifter pump to keep the siphon? That is a horrendously engineered design if you need a crutch to use it (I'm not directing that at anyone, I just think needing an aqualifter pump as a crutch is BS- the engineer who designed it should be hung). 3 years and counting and my eShopps u-tube style overflow has never broken siphon or overflowed. It's as set it and forget it as any HOB overflow can possibly be. And almost completely quiet too when set up properly, just the gentle sound of water flowing from one side of the overflow to the other before it goes down the drain pipe.

Go for it...its not bad at all. Just make sure its not tempered. Otherwise the attempt to drill will be a spectacular failure lol. Been there done that. Not dangerous really just a mess.

that's what i was affraid of in the first place. I ended up getting a cheap tank that needs resealed anyways so I figured it would be a perfect tank to try it out on. I don't think its tempered but theres no stickers on it anymore so im not sure

Whats the thickness of the front and glass panel? This is a 90 gallon right? Also do you know the manufacturer?

I know what you're going through. I had 29 with hang on the back filter ->drilled with Glass-holes (two holes) -> upgraded to 90 with bean animal (this means 5 holes to drill).
For the reference, this is my 90 thread and this is "90 club" that you might be interested in :)

When you are drilling, the thicker glass the better chance for success.

Lastly, one of the ways to tell if the glass is tempered or not

    Get items below:
    -a pair of polarized glasses
    -a laptop computer

If you look through the back window of your car, you see some strange pattern with the polarized glasses. Pretty much all the car back glass is tempered (or GM side windows nowadays. They are always marked as tempered).

Now make the computer desktop all white. ie: empty window on your browser. Place it inside of the empty tank that you wanna drill. Take a look at the display through the glass that you wanna drill with the polarized glasses on. If you see some strange looking wave pattern, the glass is tempered.

This is only one of the tricks, its ALWAYS a good idea to call the mfg.

Never heard of using the laptop before. When you are drilling it use a cordless drill wth a clutch and set it to the loosest so it slippage at the tiniest amount of binding. I always make a little pool out of plumbers putty and fill it with water and if the glass is thick I normally drain it rinse it and continue. Also let the drill do the work and use like no pressure. The Glass-Holes guys have some videos about drilling that are good to watch. And it does take a while to drill through the thicker glass just take your time.
