im thinking about doing a 10 gallon reef tank. and i want to have a sump becuase i feel like thats a good idea. but i have no idea on how to do any kind of overflow. whats the best and cheapest way? i was going to drill the tank and put a box on the inside of my tank with slots in it to overflow into and have the water that goes in that drain down to the sump then go to pump to tank and that would be the loop. and i dont think it would matter the gph the pump would it? idk im on a low budget for gadgets so help me out!

you just dont want your return pump to exceed the GPH of the overflow. i would recommend checking out glass-holes.com and getting a overflow and return kit and then get a pump to go with it....you wont need much for a 10 gallon.

With the pump to overflow ratio...you can always plump a small ball valve and lower the GPH if it is to much. Are you working with a glass or acrylic tank?
