Picked up a new return pump yesterday. It's an Eheim 1060, and does about 400gph at 4 foot head. My overflow is rated at 700gph. So I'm not overloading my overflow, it's a 1" overflow in a Perfecto reef ready tank.

It drains, water builds up a little in the overflow box, then drains quickly and builds back up again - in the process making a flushing gurgling noise. I have checked the airline hose on the standpipe, cleaned it, then popped it back in so there are no obstructions.

Getting a bit irritated here, any suggestions? Doesn't matter if the drain line is above or below the water line in the sump.

wish I knew the solution for you but never used an overflow but it seems to me that its not draining quickly enough so the overflow box backs up and then drains quickly hence the gurgling

but I will bump this so someone else with more experience can hopefully offer a solution

Mine does that too! Sounds like a toilet flushing....a little bit comes from my overflow and the rest of the noise comes from the water entering the sump from the plumbing.

Mine sort of did the same thing a while back, however the scenario was flex pool hose from overflow box to the sump. Well i had the hose too long so it made a u-shape then water had to travel upwards a few inches to feed into the sump. I shorteded the length to eliminate the u-shape in hose and it fixed it. Best of luck

Yes, that's why mine makes noise. The tubing in the sump chamber is long and then turns back upwards, so when the water pushes out of the tube, it gurgles loudly. I think I will shorten my tubing.

haha yeah, it sounds like a toilet flushing. Sometimes I find it relaxing, like being at the beach with the waves coming in...but other times I can't hear the tv and get pretty annoyed! lol
