i have an eshopps, it's g2g... get one with a black box... i've heard mixed reviews about the continuous siphon kinds...

just get a regular u-tube overflow.. tried and true, drilled overflows are easier and look better, but like you said that's not an option

they last forever, are made of solid plastic, just make sure you don't have leaks and that in the event your pump fails the siphon will break before your sump overflows...

    that's about it!

little fish can get caught in there, or trapped behind them if they're wobbly, obvious considerations.

get the biggest one you think you'll need...

I am actually suprised to find that those of you who replied use the eshopps but this is a good thing since now I know what most of you without a drilled tank are using.

The eshopps from what I have seen and read do not require an air pump; is this right? If so, thats a plus because I really dont want to have to run an air pump on the overflow all the time.

For the box Eshopps Eshopps Eshopps. :) Well, I am not familiar with the Lifereef. But I would avoid CPR. CPR's neeed lift assist pumps and if they break siphon or you have a power outage they are a much bigger flood risk. Eshopps avoid all of this.
Ideal flow through your sump should be around 5X tank capacity. So for a 125, right around 600-700GPH would be great. Any faster, and you move water through the sump faster than reactors, the skimmer, and the fuge can process it, making your filtration less efficient.
I would do one of the Eshopps 800GPH overflow, and aim for around 600-700 GPH on the return pump at head. This would be perfect.

Awesome thanks for the info PackLeader, JayTropical said you swore by the eshopps so it was great to hear it from you as well. Thanks for the extra info on the flow that was something I really wasnt too sure about.

Looks like I will go with the Eshopps since everyone seems to use them at least now I know they are proven and tested by peeps I actually talk to and not just reading about it.

    Thanks all! ;D
