Thanks everyone for all the input. I did put a valve on the return pump but i could never seem to dial it in right. It was either too much or too little. I never lost suction on my overflow unless the return pump was dialed back too much. My fear is to cause a flood by having the return pump not dialed back far enough, loosing all the water in my sump then burning out the pump as it runs in an empty tank. If the pump is dialed back too far, not enough water gets to the dt, suction will be lost but the pump will still run and once again overflow the tank. Several people said that the overflow box will self balance itself so that the intake equals the return. I never saw this occur. I would adjust, watch the system and only intervene just before flooding. I believe that i am just going to drain and drill!!!

Can we get a picture of your overflow? An overflow shouldn't loose siphon like that, something must not be right.

You should never ever lose suction on your overflow. If you do something is obviously wrong. Photos would help.

Hey Rat, where in this sentence do you see throttle back the overflow??? My bad forgot to put in, ballvalve to fine tune.....Other than that, its exactly what you state to DO!! No different, but I threw in a T off the RETURN PUMP. NO DIFFERENCE!!

What does the tee feed? Usualy when someone places a tee in the return line they install a ball valve or gat valve and return flow back to the sump wasting energy.
If you are not returning water what do you install the tee for?

It can be used to feed things like reactors or refugiums but you didn't say that.

When you install a ball valve on the return for throttling the flow, it goes inline not on a tee.
