I have a 65g drilled tank with a 1 1/4 overflow bulkhead and a 3/4 inch return. I am confused as to why they are different sizes? Please explain. The tank came with a 115 V 60HZ 65W 1.5 AMP return pump. Will that be enough? Thanks!

The water going through the drain is being moved by gravity and the return is be moved mechanically. Gravity needs a larger opening to be effective. The pump should be fine.

The overflow is gravity and the return is pressurized so flows much more water than a gravity overflow thus the two different sizes.
