Over $40.00 for a purple firefish?

    Maybe it's just my LFS but I thought purple firefish were more like $25.00 like on live aquaria, not over $40.00. Seems to me some LFS are jacking up prices on fish big time. They had other fish that cost 2x more then I've ever seen any where else.

    It depends on their distributor and their standing with them. Also location has a lot to do with pricing.

    Unless you've been into other stores, I would consider that online prices all require overnight shipping of $35+. For fish stores, they pay shipping to their location, then eat any losses that occur along the way.

    Not to mention that you also need to pay shipping so that $25 fish is now around $60.

    They are right about you paying shipping. Really no comparison with online pricing because of shipping unless you are adding enough livestock to get shipping divided among lots of animals or free shipping if offered from the site.
