I was just wondering how important orp was. I had purchased a orp probe for my reefkeeper elite and my orp was at about 390 to 425 for about a month and purchased a new skimmer and now it's ready about 300 during the day and 250 at night it has been as low as 200. Any reason to be worried. Thanks

it improves coral health(a higher score)(its a measure of water purity from organics)

if you new skimmer is lowering it i dont think that is good the last one may have been better(if its broken in that is)

Your ORP will move all over the place during the day. I keep mine between 325 and 390 with a O3 generator. 200 is low, did you stir something up in the tank like the sand??

This is a C&P from a long time friend and one of the early pioneers who got this hobby to where it is and about the only so called Expert I'd ever give a tinkers damn as to what they had to say , Albert has forgotten more then many today no about marine aquariums. I seldom or never post a link but he has it already written up and its what I'd tell you anyways

    Thiel Book - Chapter 13

The very last paragraph will answer your question but the entire read is well worth it to fully understand the numbers and how in influence them to get as high as possible up to 390 to 400 . is what I have always strive for . Thanks Albert

Could be a build of of DOC or dead animal or bacterial bloom ? Or as simple as a huge overfeeding ?

Otty I think that you answered it about why It went to 200. I forgot that when I put my skimmer in I stirred up a bunch of crap off the bottom and didn't think any thing about it. I have a seperate 10 gallon tank that I use for my skimmer in do to lack of space in sump and expirence when I started the tank. I had also used it to cool the tank. Am in process of changing sumps. That's why I haven't cleaned it yet. Thanks again.

Well that is why the level dropped then. It will always drop when you stir stuff up in the tank.
