I have one in my tank for apx. 3 months now and it currently chills on the bottom and has a place under a barnacle it likes to duck into when frightened. Eats basically everything but I never see it sifting through the sand for food. Now I was under the impression that this was a sifting fish but was I wrong to assume that?

This one makes his home in the sand working with it's shrimp partner. Otherwise, it is a meat eater and will eat pretty much whatever you give it. It just lives in the sand.....it doesn't depend on it for food.

Good call pharmerjohn, they are indeed comunal fish with pistol shrimp... Its great to watch but can be irratating as the pistol shrimp buries everything in site and makes the popping noise late at night. The first 10 times he did it I thought the glass on my tank cracked!!

    Happy reefing!
