I don't know as of when, but Rapid now has orange, red-orange, and amber LEDs. I'm very curious as to what they can add appearance wise to our tanks.

With that said, do you guys think we should mix in more colored LEDs in our builds or just use a combination of different whites to get the higher end of the visible spectrum?

As of now, my build was going to include: violet, royal blue, blue, cool white, and neutral white. I'm now reconsidering mixing in more colors and reducing my white LED count.

When you talk about led corlor i always look at the wavelength light they produce. Usually this is pretty specific. Then compare that to spikes from a Radium Metal Halide.

    Amber 585-595nm wavelength
    Orange 610-620nm wavelength

    Thank you advanced aquarist!

So for analysis I would say adding in an amber LED is beneficial but the orange not so much.

orange seems a bit extreme but so does red. I hear that the reds can overpower the other lights. although I have 0 real world experience with any of them other than white, blue, and royal blue.

No scientific information other than conjecture and observation for reefkeepers, but alot of people find their bright red LPS can orange-out without red supplementation. That makes zero sense to me since if a coral is red it should be reflecting all red spectrum and using photosynthesis for other wavelengths but I digress.

If a Radium 20k as a spike I want that spice in my spectrum.

Sorry, should have included the wavelengths. They also now carry a CREE red which is between 620-630 and still have their Osram 660 red.

Radions have four of the Osram reds out of the 34 LEDs per unit, so I would only be going with 1 or 2 of the "redish" LEDs in my 24-28 LED build.

With all the various LED colors available to us now, it makes me wonder what would be best. Colored LEDs have that large peak in their wavelength and then that's about it spectrum wise.

Various white LEDs vs A few whites with various colored LEDs (Cyan, Amber, Red, Violet, possibly others)
